Keeping the cold and hunger at bay in Etete (KZN)

Recently, we brought some relief to 80 orphaned and vulnerable children, and the elderly in the impoverished community of Etete.

This community continues to battle poverty, high unemployment, a growing number of orphaned and vulnerable children, together with a rise in the number of female-headed households.

80 essential goods hampers were packed and distributed to the community. We were treated with such respect and gratitude by people who have immensely difficult lives.

Our distribution point was a hidden gem and a saving grace, for the orphans housed at the centre, and for the children of the community, who prior to the pandemic, had a place to read and do homework, receive a lunchtime meal, and play sport and various outdoor activities – SummerHill House. Esther Lynn, fondly known as Gogo, an indomitable woman, works tirelessly to assist the community with food parcels, ID applications, school registrations – the list goes on. Thank you Tshidi and Gogo for welcoming us.
