Vulamehlo Hospice and Respite Centre in Melville is indispensable to the communities of KwaDukuza. The centre provides palliative care to patients battling life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, TB, HIV and AIDS. The majority of people cannot afford private medical care, and it is institutions like Vulamehlo that step in to afford patients the care and dignity they deserve. Ma Elizabeth Khumalo manages the Centre and she will openly and honestly tell you that they are partially funded for the care they provide but that food provisioning is a challenge.
Pick n Pay “Feed the Nation” campaign came to the rescue once again. We Care Mother Africa says a heartfelt thanks to our invaluable supporters at Pick n Pay North Beach and at Pick N Pay Crescent, and to every customer that contributed to “Feed the Nation” campaign. Through the generous donations, we were able to assist families of 20 patients who receive Home-Based care from Vulamehlo, with food hampers. We were also able to add much needed staples to Vulamehlo’s kitchen.
